Free car repair garage dispute letter template
Use this letter to record what a garage agreed to do, what was actually done, the remaining fault and the refund or corrective work you require.
Who this letter is for
Challenge poor repairs, work you did not authorise or a bill that exceeds the agreed estimate. It is written in the formal register companies, landlords and card issuers expect, and it records the facts, the remedy sought and the deadline in a way that supports any later escalation to an ombudsman or the courts.
How to use this template
- 1Collect the estimate and invoice.
- 2Record the remaining or new fault.
- 3Obtain an independent report where possible.
- 4Choose corrective work or a price reduction.
- 5Set a written response deadline.
What to include before you send it
- Keep the estimate, invoice, diagnostic report and all messages with the garage.
- Obtain an independent report before another garage changes the disputed work where possible.
- State whether you want repeat performance, a price reduction or reimbursement of corrective work.
The rights you are relying on
The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires UK services to be performed with reasonable care and skill; equivalent service guarantees may apply in other countries.
